Founded in 1905 by Herbert Austin, the Austin Motor Company was a British manufacturer of vehicles. In 1952, it was merged with another company, Morris Motors Limited, to form British Motor Corporation. The Austin brand was then used until 1987. The brand was then taken over by SAIC Motor, a Chinese firm, in 2005. It was acquired from a subsidiary of a bankrupt Chinese company, Nanjing Automotive.
