Established in Bavaria, Germany, Audi is a luxury vehicle manufacturer. It is a subsidiary of Volkswagen Group, and it produces cars in nine facilities around the world. The company was founded in Ingolstadt, Bavaria.

The company’s origin can be traced back to the early 20th century. It started with the creation of the Audiwerke and Horch enterprises, which were respectively founded by August Horch and DKW. Auto Union was first established in 1932. During the 1960s, Volkswagen purchased Auto Union from Daimler-Benz.

After the company’s relaunch in 1965, Volkswagen acquired Auto Union and merged it with NSU Motorenwerke. This created the modern Audi brand.

The name of the company was derived from Horch’s Latin surname, which means “listen,” and its Latin name, audi. The four rings of the company’s logo represent the various car companies that formed Auto Union. Its slogan, which is also referred to as “Being ahead through technology,” is featured on the rings.
